Children’s Museum of New Hampshire

Arts and science museum for children of all ages and their families. Visitors enjoy the hands-on exhibits and activities—like digging up dinosaur fossils, playing music, exploring the Cochecho-System or navigating a submarine—as well as special programs and performances, including the ongoing family music series held on Sunday afternoons and the monthly seniors series.

Woodman Institute Museum
182 Central Avenue, Dover, NH
The Woodman Institute Museum is a true Turn of the Century New England Museum established in 1916, located at 182-190 Central Ave.  Exhibits are arranged in four historic buildings to include a 1675 colonial hand-hewn garrison house displaying early cooking utensils, tools, clothing, furniture and old rope beds. The 1813 home of abolitionist Senator John Parker Hale has early police and fire memorabilia, New England furniture, oil paintings, pewter, antique dolls/toys, and local history.  The 1818 Woodman house, once home to famous lawyer Daniel Christy. has exhibits of natural history and Civil War items that includes a saddle used by President Lincoln.

Dover Public Library

The library features monthly exhibits showcasing the work of local artists. Adults and teens are welcome to attend monthly lectures, slide shows, travelogues, and other presentations featuring authors, local speakers, historians, or other experts. From June through August, the library offers a Children’s Summer Reading Program for ages 5 through 12 and a Teen Summer Reading program for ages 12 through 18. During the school year, patrons of all ages are invited to free Saturday afternoon film matinees in the library’s Lecture Hall.

Garrison Players Arts Center

Garrison Players is a nonprofit, year-round community theater group that performs plays, musicals, and revues geared for family audiences. Some of the group’s recent performances include 1776 and the Seacoast Media Group’s Spotlight award-winning Cemetery Club. The Garrison Players restored the historic Hiram Roberts Grange Hall in Rollinsford as an active community arts center and home for theatrical productions.

City of Dover - Parks and Recreation
McConnell Center, Locust Street, Dover, NH
The City of Dover maintains an extensive network of parks, walking paths and recreational facilities, including an indoor and outdoor pool, two ice arenas, a fitness center and a gymnasium, in addition to dozens of ballfields and grassy areas. The Recreation Department also offers year round programming for children, adults and seniors.
