Board of Directors The government of the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce is vested in the Board of Directors. The Board is charged with determining and reviewing the Chamber’s mission and purposes. The Board also develops and administers the Chamber’s program of work. Board members are selected by the nominating committee and referred to the membership for election. Selection of Board members is based on specific criteria including involvement in Chamber activities, representation of the membership and areas of expertise and professional skills. Executive Committee – The Executive Committee consists of the Board officers plus two other Board members who are appointed by the Chairperson. The Executive Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors and may take positions and other actions on behalf of the Chamber in an emergency or when immediate action is required. The full Board must ratify any actions taken by the Executive Committee. Ambassador Committee – The Ambassadors aid in the retention of existing Chamber members. The mission of the Ambassadors is to ensure that members understand and take advantage of the benefits of Chamber membership. The Ambassadors assist the Board in active membership contact and serve as the official hosts at Chamber functions and events. Membership in the Ambassador Committee is open to any member who has been a member of the Chamber for at least one year. The Ambassadors meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 8:00 a.m. Education Committee The Education Committee is a partnership between Chamber businesses and community educators. The mission of the Education Committee is to partner local businesses and schools to produce students with skills that are relevant to the business environment and who are competitive in today’s and tomorrow’s world. The Committee seeks to improve the quality of education in our community and reduce the dropout rate in the schools. All Chamber members are welcome to participate in the Education Committee. The committee meets on the second Friday of the month at 7:30 a.m. Government Affairs Committee – The Government Affairs Committee monitors the activities of local and regional government bodies for issues that might affect Chamber members. The Committee provides a voice for Chamber members before various City boards and commissions, encourages members to become candidates for elected office and conducts candidates forums to permit the public to hear the views of candidates for City Council and School Board. The committee reviews issues and develops Chamber positions for consideration by the Board of Directors. The Committee is open to all members. The committee meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 a.m. Mission: "to Identify, research and make recommendations about issues that affect the membership and the greater Dover area." |
